Valori Fussell

Valori Fussell
Valori Fussell is an American artist whose work concentrates on the portrait and human figure. Her paintings are universally responded to as feeling “alive”. Portraits form the largest core of her work and while modern in their directness and intensity, they emerge from the traditions of the Italian and Northern Renaissance. In both method and attitude she is a studio artist whose thirty-year practice is based in sound craftsmanship and integrity. Valori’s work has been featured in American Artist Magazine, Food and Home Magazine, Art Calendar and Cottage Living. She was awarded a grant from the Georgia Council for the Arts, an Artist-in-Residence in Cortona, Italy and the Purchase Award in the Cheekwood National Painting Competition. Her artwork is in over four hundred public, private and museum collections. Collectors include Michael E. Pulitzer, Publisher; Maryanne Mott, Philanthropist; Tipper Gore; Paul Hogan, Actor; and Stanley F. Druckenmiller, Financier and Philanthropist. Valori was born in Atlanta, Georgia in 1954. She grew up in Washington, DC where she began her art education at the Corcoran School of Art and the Smithsonian.  Returning to Georgia she graduated from the University of Georgia in 1989 earning a Masters of Fine Art in Painting and Drawing with studies in Printmaking. She is a fulltime studio artist living in Taos, New Mexico.
